These olive wood objects are made for us by our local friend, Silvio Marchini, using knarled olive wood from Seggiano and the surrounding area.
Many olive trunks, some up to three hundred years old, were left after the severe Monte Amiata frosts of 1985-86 killed many trees. There is also a continued supply of trunks created also by the occasional regenerative pruning of olive trees, in which the old trunks are removed, leaving younger trunks which have shot up from the same root system, to flourish.
Olive wood is hard, with the most beautiful grain, which follows the tortuous way the trees grow. Silvio’s wooden creations are hard wearing, but enjoy an occasional oiling. Not dishwasher safe.
